It's always been difficult to find waterproof clothing which is really suitable for
outdoor work. It may seem a strange point to make, but the vast majority of waterproof
garments used by those who work outside for a living, were only ever designed to
keep out water, they were never designed to work in. Many outdoor workers find these
garments too uncomfortable, too heavy, too inflexible and not really robust enough
for the job they have to do. Modern manufacturing techniques and high-
Flexothane is a polyurethane membrane, transfer coated onto a knitted polyamide backing
(the same fibres that stop a chainsaw). This is a fabric, which was originally developed
for use in military applications. The high specification of "Flexothane" with its
unique properties is now offering tremendous benefits to the outdoor work place.
The fabric, which is not a woven material, is totally waterproof. It complies with
the European standard EN 343, which is an exceptionally high standard for waterproof
garments. The material is permeable, and although it does not breathe at the same
standard as some of the more expensive mountaineering waterproofs, it is completely
adequate for the work place. It's suitability for work is enhanced by the unique
flexibility of the material. Up to 150% stretch, allows great freedom of movement,
without putting undue stress on seams. Adverse weather conditions particularly severe
cold causes many waterproof garments to crack. Flexothane retains its soft pliable
properties even at sub zero temperatures, and has no adverse effects down to -
Garments manufactured from Flexothane have all been designed specifically with the outdoor worker in mind. The clothing is cut generously and correctly, to allow maximum freedom of movement and yet still retain shape and style. All garments have high frequency welded seams to give the best possible protection from leaking. A range of jackets and trousers are available in several styles, sizes from small to XXXL, and colours which include Navy Blue and Spruce Green, all at prices which are surprisingly reasonable. All in all, Flexothane is a waterproof you should consider next time you are getting wet.
